Sustainable Housing

There is need to act now: Live sustainable lifestyles! #GreenYourLife

Many of today´s food production systems compromise the capacity of Earth to produce food in the future. Sustainable Development Goal 11 is to “Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” with one of the targets related to sustainable cities: By 2020, substantially increase the number of cities and human settlements adopting and implementing integrated policies and plans towards inclusion, resource efficiency, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, resilience to disasters, and develop and implement, in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, holistic disaster risk management at all levels.

European Union (EU) 7th Environment Action Programme has horizontal priority objective to make the Union's cities more sustainable. Following this objective a strategic initiative BUILD UP Skills was started under the Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) programme. BUILD UP Skills initiative has main goal to boost continuing or further education and training of craftsmen and other on-site construction workers and systems installers in the building sector.

Within BUILD UP Skills EnerPro project two training programmes and an online training module for trainers (courtesy of Passive House Institute – Germany, a regular partner in the project) and 10 new curricula short forms of training (40-60 hours) together with all necessary supporting materials have been developed. All programs, including basic presentations, can be found here.

The next (and last) BUILD UP Skills EU exchange meeting will take place on the 30th and 31st of May at the Bilderberg Hotel in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. More details you can find here.

Housing is also addressed by UN Environment, as presented on cover infographic. What will be your action today?
